COMMUNITY VISITORS SCHEME

The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is a national program funded by the Commonwealth Government.

Sharing your time and your interests with your resident friend will be rewarded with the satisfaction of enhancing their quality of life and perhaps yours too! Community visitors are matched with residents by the CVS Coordinator who supports you and helps you to adapt to your role as a community visitor. The CVS offers you training and support in understanding the needs of your new friend.

Matches are made taking into account your interests, background, location and when you are available to visit. Most community visitors find that they enjoy the friendship as much as the resident does, and that the relationship is both positive and rewarding.

If you would like to know more about the CVS, or would like to become a community visitor please contact the CVS Co-ordinator, Toni Trent, on 4329 7122 or email: cvs@volcc.org.au

The CVS aims to enrich the quality of life of socially isolated people living in aged care residential facilities who are lonely and would benefit from a friendly visitor.

Community visitors commit to visiting their resident friend for an hour at least once a fortnight. Visits are spent doing something both the visitor and the resident enjoy – you might want to read, listen to music, chat and reminisce, or watch a favourite TV program together. You may want to go for a walk together or have an outing. The activities you undertake will depend on the health of the resident.
